Led Zeppelin - Alchemy In The Garden (The Song Has Slightly Changed) [SBD]

Led Zeppelin
'Alchemy In The Garden'
'The Song Has Slightly Changed'
Madison Square Garden
New York City, New York, USA
Source(s): July 27, 28 and 29, 1973

Soundboard Recording
Encoded: 320 Kbps MP3

This is a compilation (matrix) of the best parts from the three concerts
at the MSG in 1973, the (in)famous “The Song Remains the Same” concerts.

Track List:
Disc 1:
1. Rock And Roll/ Celebration Day/ Black Dog
2. Over the Hills and Far away
3. Misty Mountain Hop/ Since I've Been Loving You
4. No Quarter
5. The Song Remains the Same/ The Rain Song
Disc 2:
1. Dazed and Confused
2. Stairway to Heaven
3. Moby Dick
4. Heartbreaker/ Whole Lotta Love
5. The Ocean
Bonus Mixes:
1. The complete 28th version of Celebration Day, followed by the complete Black Dog from the 28th.
2. A special mix of Since I've Been Loving You using all the available sections from the 27th (mainly the Intro and the main solo).
3. Same as above, but using all the available sections from the 29th (This is the closest to one of the actual performances.About 80% of it is from the 29th).
4. A mix of No Quarter with the complete 28th instrumental section, similar to the one found on the movie, but without the 1 minute cut in the middle.
5. A special mix of Stairway to Heaven with the vastly superior cross-dubbing fix at 5:11, but retaining the unaltered guitar solo and outro.
6. The "movie" version of Moby Dick.
7. The Whole Lotta Love version from the original album (with the 29th intro) with the drum segue from the 27th.

What is so different about this collection? All the tracks were re-cut and mixed with care and attention in order to provide the most complete and enjoyable listening experience, without unnecessary cuts or timing anomalies and also bringing back the feel of the original TSRTS releases.
The sources used were FLAC files from the original TSRTS soundtrack (1976), the Remastered TSRTS (2007), as well as audio-rip sections from the original movie.

While this doesn't present any of the nights in their entirety, it comes close, trying to recreate an authentic concert  atmosphere as much as possible. You’ll find that a few tracks are actually in the same audio file. This is because I believe they shouldn’t be listened separately, since they were meant to be heard back-to-back. Also, I offered you a few additional mixes for some tracks, using sections from different nights. The choice is up to you. -Original

The last of five nights in Chicago; featuring a few setlist variations and a very vocal audience.  The performance on the whole was pretty good, with two songs that had not been played any of the previous nights (California and 40) and Bono appeared to be particularly animated.  I think (though I would need to check) this is also the longest show of the five-night run; the band seemed to really enjoy their stint in Chicago and played a slightly longer set than usual. It’s not often something like this sort of falls in your lap.

June 30, 1983 was the hottest day of the year to date in Chicago.  The now-legendary venue Metro - then known as Cabaret Metro - had been open for roughly a year.  While I was just an 11 year old kid cavorting on a beach across Lake Michigan from Chicago that day - or most likely asleep in the summer cottage, considering the time - New Order finally made their debut appearance in Chicago.  Attendees say it was unbearably hot inside the Metro that night.  And allegedly even hotter on the stage.  That day, the high temperature reached near 100° F in Chicago and it had barely cooled as the evening went on.  Making matters worse, the band took nearly two hours to get on stage after the opening act, which made an uncomfortable and stinky audience even more strident.

The set starts out as your typical New Order set of the era would.  Things seem OK, maybe a bit rowdier crowd than normal, until late in the fourth song “Truth” when the sequencer starts to act up.  They launch straight into “Leave Me Alone” which ends uneventfully.  Then, the power goes out (as you’d have it).  A restless crowd begins complaining among itself, with audible complaints about sweat dripping into eyes, another mentioning rubbing ice all over their face, and vocalized thankfulness that they brought paper towels in.  Random sequencer bleats punctuate the rumbling crowd, as the roadies and venue staff try to get the power sorted.  Hooky mentions needing a shower.  Eventually, “Your Silent Face” starts.  It devolves into a unique and fascinating exposition on what a sequencer-using band does when the sequencers are failing mid song - Steve Morris jumps behind the drum kit far earlier than usual, and essentially drives the song to its skittering end as the sequencers never recover.  I think this take is spectacular and I think you’ll agree.
